Does anyone ever write a good first introduction? There's always that whole 'God, what am I going to say?' moment of awkwardness, isn't there?

Do I put 'Hi, my name's Lauren.' or 'Hey, this is Laurie and I'll be your new transfer student for today'? That last sounds like I should be saying something along the lines of 'Do you want fries with that?' though. Which is funny, because I was only talking to my friend Helen last month about how I couldn't decide if I wanted to get a part time job at McDonald's or not.

I can still do that, right? Because, much as retail is not exactly my 'career choice of a lifetime', it does give me money for things. (Clothing, a car when I get my driver's license. Okay, maybe not a car but one can dream.) And it beat wearing a chicken suit and standing outside a department store selling their 'crazy prices'. On the minus side, my hair will smell like fries at the end of the day.

So, as you may have realized by now, being psychic (It's funny because it's true! At least of some of you, anyhow.) my name is Laurie. Okay, it's really Lauren but only my Mum calls me that, and only when she's truly peeved at me. (Breaking the best china vase playing tag with the dog levels of peeved.) I'm a transfer student from the local high school (Go Salem Center Rams!) Wow, that sounded special. Truly, I do not win at Cheerleading. Always knew there was a reason I picked cross country running instead.

I assume at this point, it's probably a good point to tell you what my mutant power is. I do this thing with pheromones, don't really understand it much myself right now, something to do with how I smell, affecting people physically. Um, people who know about this kind of thing and are good with the explaining of such, help?

Anyway, that's me. I guess I'll see you all in class at some stage, or around.

Perhaps we should warn you about the abundance of redheads with funny accents.

Don't ask me why, I've got a theory, but it involves scary numbers and if I mention it to anyone but Forge or Paige they tend to get a little glassy-eyed.

There's not a thing funny about our accents. You lot are the ones who talk funny.

But there are more of us than there are of you. Majority rules!

And besides, most of the completely incomprehensible accents belong to the medical staff.

Not in the US, trust me, I'm studying for my government exam tomorrow. You lot let the minority elect your president all the time.

Yeah, shouldn't you be studying instead of reading the journals anyway?

SO glad I took government first semester. Of course, now I still have my essay to finish for Professor Xavier's Ethics final...

I was trying to not scare her of the abundance of geniuses running around here either.

I figure, if we're going to be forthright about the bizarre quantities of redheads, we might as well come out with the truth about our strange, genius-attracting water source. Especially given how many of said redheads are also geniuses.

Hey Kitty!

After the last couple of weeks I've had, these guys would have to do a lot to worry me. Everyone has been so great. I'm all sorts of wow at the welcome.

Not that I should have worried but new school, you never can tell what it'll be like.

Hi, Rahne. I've got cooking as one of classes, so maybe I'll see you there? Mom insisted that I take it when she saw it on the list of classes, since she's all about the being self-reliant.

Oh, good, somebody else we'll be able to trust not to blow up the kitchen trying to make soup.

I get the feeling that you've had to deal with bad cooking on more then one occation. Well, I already know how to cook a lamb roast but that's about the extent of my cooking experience.
