Help?

Sooo. Who here has the ability to drive and doesn't mind carting me back and forth between here and Salem Center High this weekend?

Mom would do it but she's working and I'm meant to be doing my finals, and I suppose I could walk if no one's available...

This would be so much easier if I could just take the damn things with the rest of my class but I guess 'uncontrolled mutant power' makes my former fellow student's parental types a little twitchy. Which, yeah, understandable but still sucks.

So, lift? I'll even make you lunch when we get back. (Although, it'll have to be sandwiches of some sort, or maybe soup. Soup I can do. Got a receipe for this really great vegetable soup around somewhere.)

Schrodinger was a physicist who did a thought experiment about locking a cat in a box with a radioactive isotope that might or might not kill the cat after one hour. The question was: without opening the box, is the cat alive or dead? Shrodinger's Principle of Quantum Uncertainty states that until it is observed, both states are potentially true, so: Cat = alive is true, and Cat = dead is true, until it is observed, and then only one can be true.

Yeah, it doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense, but trust me, the math adds up when you're dealing with teleporting. Which has nothing to do with the car.

The car is technically in a state of death with potential for life. More like the Frankenstein Principle than Schrodinger.

What if it was a mutant cat and it could teleport?

[identity profile] x-forge.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It... but...

That's not the point, Kyle! It's a hypothetical normal non-teleporting cat.

[identity profile] x-wildchild.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Can it walk through walls like Kitty?

[identity profile] x-forge.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not even a real cat! It's a gedankenexperiment, an imaginary situation you use to illustrate a theoretical point or postulate!

Here, I'll illustrate. Right now you exist both in a state of Thwapped and Unthwapped, and until I walk back into the room, you might as well be in both states since you won't know which is true until I either smack you in the head or don't.

[identity profile] x-wildchild.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Well why can't it be like Shrondinger's banana slug? I like cats!

Uh, no, I'm totally in a state of unthwapped. Like you could lay a hand on me unless I wanted you to.

[identity profile] x-forge.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
But that's only because you're observing me. Unobserved, all things remain in a state of quantum uncertainty.

[identity profile] x-wildchild.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm observing you being pwned in a second if you .. hey! NO FAIR WITH A BROOM!

[identity profile] x-roulette.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a frightening thought. Mutant animals. Cats that could teleport. Dogs that breathe fire. Telepathic goldfish.

[identity profile] x-wildchild.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I want a fire-breathing goldfish!!!!!!

[identity profile] x-roulette.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but you'd end up with goldfish soup. Unless it was also invulnerable....

[identity profile] x-wildchild.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. Good point.

I still want a mutant goldfish!

[identity profile] x-kitten.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I'll just stick to the dragon, thanks. And Kyle, good luck staying in a state of Unthwapedness.

[identity profile] x-emplate.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Now there's a terrifying thought. Imagine Cats with the ability to teleport herself anywhere in the school at any time of her choosing. Rooms would be torn asunder. Clean laundry would become full of mysterious purple hairs. Our valuable privacy would be a thing of the past.

. . . now that I think on it, I suppose it wouldn't actually make any noticeable difference.

[identity profile] x-roulette.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm begining to think Cats have that ability anyway. Only way my poor brain can explain it.
