The amount of times I've wanted to nap - and I'm not even a resident yet.

People seriously need to understand everything that goes into being a good doctor.

It's not like you show up and they just give you scrubs.

I've been studying to be one since I was a teenager - the amount of things I had to give up, and if do it again because it's what I was meant to do with my life.

So, fuck the assholes who told this resident that she wasn't doing her job.

Obviously this is to be your calling. I love that someone thought to make him a turtle cosey.

Oh yeah. Trying to operate on someone while you've been up for 36 hours and running on Red Bull is stupid dangerous. What the hell?

I think these past few months have been the first time I've gotten proper levels of sleep in awhile. Once I'm finished with designing my arm and getting used to using it I'll be going right back to my last year of medical school.

That's a somewhat scary thought.

I have tried and possess a gamut of caffeinated beverages if you ever need any. :D

For the first month it sucks but then it gets better. I find myself catching up on sleep as much as I can when I'm off, though. To the people who say you can sleep when your dead they weren't in the medical profession.

There have been several lawsuits in the past few years over medical malpactice due to sleep deprivation as well as putting stricter limits on doctors hours in hospitals, especially residents, to prevent these things from occurring again.

Although, I thought most hospitals had some sort of bunkroom for doctors to sleep if needed? Or was that just some daydream I picked up from my old roommates soap opera obsession?

There are spaces for doctors to sleep if they're on call. But the hours doctors are expected to work, and the chronic lack of funding in some hospitals mean you can be understaffed and overworked to the point that it feels like you have to stay awake.

There is also the fact that medical facilities in different parts of the world have different facilities and amenities. When I was younger, before I'd started Medschool I was in a group of volunteers in a hot zone. Things like triage and treatment of those in a war zone don't always lend themselves to the best of conditions.

Either way, the last thing this young doctor needed was some sort of public shaming for grabbing some nap time.

That seems incredibly counterproductive.

Very true, I think this article was from Mexico? Other countries laws and needs (like in warzones) are very different from American sometimes.

Agreed.
