An introduction of sorts

Hi, my name is Laurie. I love cooking, websites about weird medical conditions of history and archery.

I would like to get to know you all better.

I had a thought that with all the new influx of students, it might do to introduce myself again - especially since it is quite difficult at times to get to everybody in person. (Please don't let this be a deterrent however should you wish to engage me in conversation. I promise I don't bite. )

Powers out of the way first.

I control pheromones that have a physical effect on people's bodies. This sometimes can mean an emotional reaction but only due to the person being unaware of where the physical manifestation is coming from. I have trained extensively in this ability - both individually and as a group as part of my X-men training.

There are several therapeutic benefits to using my power in treatments such as massage but I am always careful to ask for consent before using my mutant abilities on anybody who is not in immediate danger, or about to cause my own person immediate danger.

Professional:

I am a fourth year medical student currently on hiatus from classes due to a physical injury - I hope to go back to my studies at some stage in the near future but in the meantime I am helping out Jean Grey with a clinic in the city. I am also on rotation in the medical lab here for general practice (with oversight by the currently certified doctors of course.) If you have an upset that physical therapy or a simple consult would solve and I am on duty I will be happy to help you. I believe the med lab office hours for all of us have been posted to the school message board, but please e-mail us should you need something out of those hours.

Personal:

I have lived at the mansion since I came here after a rather unfortunate set of circumstances involving my powers. With the help of Charles Xavier and a lawyer friend of his I was acquitted of the murder charges and allowed to go free. From that time I have sort to control and understand my abilities and make the world around myself a better place for when I leave it.

I have seen wars that left innocent lives lost. I have seen cruel men who believed that simply because they had power meant they could do with it as they wished.

I have been tortured, changed into an unquestioning beast, used to kill, used as bait and had my arm removed during a fight to protect my fellow mutants.

I have also been loved, and currently find myself in a relationship that a younger me might have found strange - but works very well indeed for the me of now.

So, ask your questions if you have any or are simply curious to know me better. I will answer all I can.

That was the brief version. The detailed version would take more then one journal entry and include a great deal more trauma and sex. Possibly also alcohol, although I thank whatever entity exists that my teenage years have been lost to the ages.

I was somewhat self-righteous and entirely sure that I was right and everybody else was stupid, or misguided.

Like - the entire thing, okay? I get what you're trying to do here but this is - like, it doesn't read as "Hey I'm Laurie and i did stuff." it totally reads as "Hey I'm Laurie and I'm way older and wiser and better than all of you, listen to me, you are all young and stupid, me me me, it's all about me."

And L, for serious, you know better and I know you aren't like Laurie The Walking Narcissistic but... this isn't great. Like, nobody asked for this, and they for real didn't ask for it as a 5 paragraph essay and you could've done this by saying "Hey. I'm Laurie, who are all of you, lets share."

The medical profession has an interesting history - especially when you take into account the fact that western civilization was very much behind for most of it.

It was actually Amanda's seminar on demons a little while ago.

I wanted to know whether the history reflected the knowledge of the magical community.

It would seem that it does not. Most histories of exorcism appear to be people confused about mental illness.

Although I would be interested to know if the Vatican archives had any more accounts of actual demons.

Good luck getting in there though it's always been a dream of mine. Wouldn't be surprised to find out the Church had its own mutants.

I wonder whether a historian who did have actual knowledge of magic would report it. There are so many reasons to deliberately give false information or to alter what one documents.
